It has been a tricky start to our first season as a team, kicking off against the league and cup winners of last year, Canvey Island and then against a very strong Forest Glade team however the results haven't reflected the game or the quality of our football. Sunday however, the hard work in training and the belief paid off with a well deserved 4-1 win against Trinity FC in the cup. The instruction before the game was to start quickly, to be the first to the ball and that's exactly what the girls did and within 5 minutes we were 1-0 up from a great piece of teamwork and Hannah Parry (aka little Paz) finding the net after the keeper had made a great save. Even better considering we were playing into the wind!
1-0 at half time but plenty of chances from us so lots to be pleased about.
Second half starts but we're a little too relaxed and let Trinity through on goal, thankfully off target this time.
After some more very good paying and build up play, Louisa wins a penalty and converts from the spot. Top left and no keeper will save those!
The Trinity keeper is immense, closing everything down and we're finding it hard to get past her. Such a strong game she's had. But as the game goes on, Sophia manages to slot one past on the right to the left post, picking her corner, across the goal, just as practiced in training. 3-0 and the girls are smiling! We then go 4 up with about 10 to go through Louisa again!
Final 10 minutes and it seems Trinity are playing 4 strikers up top..... Which after a few attacks, they manage to get their goal.
Game finished 4-1 and the girls are very happy indeed. Girl of the match went to Maisie Sewell who won everything in defence, always being in the right place, intercepting everything and covering so much ground; without her and the other defenders, the score line could have been very different. Although to be honest, all 9 girls played brilliantly today and any of them could have been the player of the match, they deserved everything they received. Well done to all!
